#ElectronicCraftsman The blend of old fashion scratch building craftsmanship and the electronic tools available today give us the best of both worlds. In the past, model builders might sketch out plans for a model based on sound research or obtain plans from the magazines and proceed to build the model with the tools at hand. Whereas today, with computer software applications like SketchUp, Blender, Inkscape and an abundance of Computer Aided Design (CAD) applications, the modeler can prototype and test ideas in 3D space, meaning an x, y and z axis spacial environment. If there is an argument for a type of old world craftsmanship verses the use of a machine to do the work for us model builders, I have been open minded to figure out how I can take advantage of the new with the old techniques to become a better builder of models. If you do not keep experimenting you can not hope to innovate your work with trying new ideas. And, the better our tools get, the more likely we advance to the next level.
Thus, a short clinic on fabricating a pair of 100 Ton roller bearing freight trucks for my CGW tank cars in the context of an electronic craftsman.
In future videos, I will speak to some of what I learned using the software applications and some of the short cuts to learning more quickly lead to more satisfaction.
Additional, will mention the upcoming Midwest Show http://oscalemidwest.com and talk briefly about the O Scale 2 Rail National 2020 convention.
